Accessing the damage (from 7/10/08)

Considering a tornado touched down yesterday afternoon in nearby Vermillion, we survived yesterday's storm for the most part. While the storm was hitting, Gina was in the process of getting the four girls down and she nearly had to wake everyone up and head to the basement with them.

However, there was defintiely some damage in the area and for us at the same time.

Near us
* A lot of trees, many of them large, had significant damage (I noticed this all the way from our place up to Cedar / 35E on the bus
* A couple of fences were no longer standing upright in places
* Our good friends across the way had their flag pole (just put up last week) bend and rest on the top of their fence

Us
* Our 60-gallon garbage container had been flipped and was in our yard (it’s happened before, but yesterday was the first time it happened with a substantial load of garbage in it)
* The play set in the backyard (which is far from light) had moved a couple of feet and had been spun on it’s axis about 45 degrees
* We were without phone and internet all night. Most importantly, we had power though.
* The crimson frost birch tree clump we planted on the front corner of our house now has only two limbs, instead of three. The most developed of the three limbs is just barely attached. We will likely need to replace the tree seeing as the whole idea of being three-in-one is why the tree was planted there.
