Five reasons why last night's series clinching win by the Celts was so much fun:
1. One of the two NBA teams I cheer for won the title. While I am not a huge fan of pro basketball these days, I watched the Celtics play throughout the playoffs whenever I could.
2. KG and Ray Allen, two of my favorite players, now have a NBA title... and even though Garnett's post game interview was one of the stranger ones I have ever seen, I'm very much enjoyed that he gave some love to 'Sota.
3. The Kobe / MJ comparisons will (or at least should) stop. The Celts owned this series (and Kobe) from game one. Unfortunately, Kobe is a great player...but let's stop doing a disservice to Jordan please.
4. I loved how much the announcers / sportscasters talked about Boston's D. The team that played better defense and better team basketball won this series, not the team with the best individual player.
5. Since 2002, Beantown franchises have won six titles across three different sports. I can tell you that it has been a lot of fun to experience as a fan. At least for the time being, calling Boston "titletown" would be fitting. I hope one day we can do it here in Minnesota as well.
5a. A fabulous Bill Simmons article was written about winning the championship.

I completely agree Brian! When it comes to basketball Chris is a fan of players more then he is of teams. The day that KG went to the Celtics Chris came home, looked at me and said "Well I am officially a Celtics fan" and has been following them closely all season. He loves KG and these finals games were so much fun to watch. We were both pretty pumped to see Kobe get stomped on again and again...especially last night because Celtics dominated the entire game! Way to go Celtics!!!
ReplyDeleteI changed my #4 after reading your post Sarah (even though I am still very glad to be rid of Bill Walton for a while).
ReplyDeleteI changed it because I thought of Otter and how he can now use the Celts as an example of success for what he is trying to teach his kids.
I hate basketball. Why? Squeaking of the shoes. Drives me NUTS!
ReplyDeleteAgreed on all counts. Crazy thing is there easily could be 7 titles, if the Pats hadn't choked the chicken in the last Super Bowl. Kinda wild that of ALL the teams that made it to the championship game, that the most loaded/undefeated team lost. I'm very glad that KG got his title, now McHale can say the for the first time he helped build a championship team! Too bad it was in another city.
ReplyDeleteThis is Otter and I must say that I enjoy watching anyone give there heart and play with passion know matter what the sport! I think that is why I enjoyed watching the Celtics so much. They played the game the way it is suppose to be played...hard ALL the time. They say that basketball is a game of runs and that is because there are times during games where teams don't play as hard. You didn't see the Celtics relax at all which is why the Lakers never got their run. Bottom line is; if you want to win basketball games you play smart relentless defense and hustle when you hurt. Oh, and scoring 130 points usually helps too.
ReplyDeleteWow, my comment was inappropriate. You'd better delete it B.
ReplyDeleteGood call on McHale. I like Jefferson but how does he still have a job considering his body of work over the years?
ReplyDeleteI completely agree and even though the big three get much of the credit, Ainge built a good bench to complement them. Bench play was a huge factor in the finals.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun, I like the comment. Like I said last night, which one of these is not like the other ones?
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything. I was going to post something similar to what you and Messer did, but it's all been said. KG is the best.
