What a difference a year makes

It was a year ago today that Gina received the call saying that the bloodwork done on Natalie strongly suggested that she had celiac disease (which was confirmed a few weeks later with an endoscopy).

Since that phone call, Nattie has been gluten free.  As you all know, life has changed for us in many ways because of that.

What I want to say with all this though is how blessed both Gina and I feel at this point.

Nattie has gone from surviving to thriving.  The joy she had for life returned shortly after the diet change and she has grown so much that by the time May comes around she will likely be taller then the average four year old.

Considering she barely grew for an entire year and actually lost weight in 2007...that alone leaves me speechless.

  1. I can't believe that was a year ago already! Wow time does fly. She's an amazing girl and has done so well with the cards she has been handed. The fact that she is aware of her disease enough to ask "Can I eat that?" or "Will that hurt my tummy?" at the age of 3 always amazes me. I also love that this experience has made me so very aware of food in general. I really strive hard to make things as normal as possible for her so that she doesn't ever feel like her food is "different". Also, it is great that she loves the food made for her, all the veggies, beans and specialty stuff, I can't say Hailey would be the same way. Man, I love that girl! :o)

  2. I agree, her recognition is impressive. The fact that we can tell her that a certain food will hurt her tummy and she understands and immediately stops asking for it is very nice for us. And we are much aware of the food we eat now too.

  5. Mo, the shell is just for show. She takes it off at night.
Yes, I am very glad that we figured out what was wrong with her.
Now, can anyone tell me how to get a three year old to go to bed?

  8. Slightly watered down Baileys should do the trick.
